I finished my undergrad at OU in May of 2003 and chose to take a study abroad class in June of ’03 with Dr. Kevin McPherson. We traveled to Senegal and the Gambia for 5 weeks. While in Bakau, Gambia I spoke with Dr. McPherson about my plans for the future (though they weren’t much at the time) and he shared with me the opportunities provided with an HR degree. When I returned home I researched the program and immediately applied. I was thrilled when I was admitted, and began to take my classes in earnest. I have many fond memories of my instructors, classmates and class material. In fact, I was just talking about a favorite professor to my sister (also an HR alum) last night.
I finished my degree in two years and moved to Dallas, TX shortly after graduation. With my master’s degree in Human Relations I was able to secure an entry-level position in higher education. Over the course of 9 years in Higher Ed, I worked for three universities and became the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management at a small, private, Catholic institution. I received a doctorate in Higher Education Administration in 2012 and owe it to my time at the University of Oklahoma.
I now live in Denver and work for a private school for students with learning differences as a college & transition counselor. My love for education and opening doors for others has only grown over the past 13 years. Thank you for offering such a diverse program with so many wonderful professors and instructors. I truly believe my career successes can be attributed to the time I spent in the HR program.
