Benjamin Banneker 1731-1806: Benjamin Banneker was one of America’s first inventors. He was a self-taught mathematician, scientist, astronomer, and writer. Some of his early accomplishments include an irrigation system for his family farm and he also created America’s the first striking time clock. As one of the first Civil Rights Activist, he often challenged Thomas Jefferson on racial inequality. Banneker risked his life working with the French and Abolitionist to prepare territory for the nation’s capitol.
